Well . . . It was a good idea but the ACU had other thoughts about letting us compete . . . After considerable expense rebuidling the car and getting our entries in . . . they decided that:
We did not meet any of the requirements needed to race at the Isle of Man - Do we need to say that we are not only dissappointed but also very pissed off. They didn't let Wade Boyd run or another racer from argentina. They avoided us so that we could not find out why they wouldn't let us run and our supporters on the Isle are a little pissed off also.
See the newspaper article here.
So thanks for your support - the new car is coming to america via slow boat - we still have not decided what to do with it yet - stay tuned
DawgPound Racing . . . . it was an idea born from a repossed formula one sidecar . . . . in 2003 Doug and Pete were approached by a friend and asked if they would go get a sidecar that had been purchased but not paid for. Anything for a friend . . . . right . . . . Well they went and picked it up and then came the question . . . . where was the owner going to put it? As it turned out there was nowhere to store it, so we were asked . . . how would you guys like to race it? Being the adventurous types, of course we said yes!
Well . . . . that was five years ago and in our first year of racing with the K&K drifter chassis we finished in third place on the West Coast. For the second year we acquired a new chassis, a carbon fiber Windel and had soon fitted a 2002 GSXR 1000 motor into it. That year was spent testing, adjusting, breaking, fixing, and breaking again but we finished a respectable eighth. Apparently we worked most of the bugs out because, in 2005 we finished with a 1st place overall on the West Coast, a 1st place in the North West Series, a 2nd Place in the South West Series, and in 2nd place in North America. In 2006 we went to the Isle . . . unfortunately we had a serious accident and our friend and passenger James Cornell is still in rehabilitation. But we had promised him that we would race and finish the Isle of Man. So 2007 was spent in requalifing to compete at the Isle and getting our car rebuilt. Now its coming up on 2008 - the car is 95% ready to race and waiting for us at the Isle. Doug is in top form and we have a new passenger ready to take on the Mountain course.
So this is the year that the DawgPound returns to the Isle. Partly out of respect for the promise we made to James, partly because we want to be part of the most exciting motorcycle racing event in history. This is the 101st running of the race - the longest running motorcycle event in the world . . . over the worlds best/worst course, city streets and country lanes laid our over a hundred years ago - No runoff areas - no air fences - buildings and stone walls line the course. Not your average racetrack, and it isn’t average racers that attempt to conquer it.
So . . . One More Time Into The Fray . . .
On to the Isle of Man! |
