LESSONS LEARNED . . .

I've been meaning to get to this for a while but it's been kinda busy.

This section is to reflect on the "What If" issues of racing

Both here and abroad - While it is too late to help James it might make a difference to your friends and fellow Bikers/Racers

Medical Insurance
Make sure that you have a good plan and that it is current.
Helicopter Rides

If you are a sport rider and frequent the back roads for enjoyment you need to consider the possibility of getting Mediflighted out if you have an issue. Here is a link to a Northern California Helicopter service that might help save a ton of money.

Repatriation

aka

Getting Home Without Going Broke

This is just a big fancy word that means that you can afford to come home without massive fundraising efforts on your behalf!

This is especially important if you are racing overseas (like Doug and James) here are some links to insurance carriers that specialize in this type of insurance:

Heres one link that was forward to me by another concerned rider!

PAPERWORK!!

OK THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO GET DONE!

We spend a lot of time getting our bikes ready for the road/track . . . how much time have you spent getting things ready if you hit the road/track?

If you haven't done the following you haven't finished the race/ride prep work!

  1. Have a durable power of attorney drafted naming someone you trust to make decisions for you while you are unable to! Here is a link to either free or low cost legal forms that include: Durable Power Of Attorney (financial). Durable Power of Attorney (health), Living Will, along with others you might find useful. List all documents to see what is available.

  2. Make sure that person knows where all the important documents are. I.E.: Bank Accounts, Insurance Policies, Your Will, Your Living Will, Any other assets (stocks, realestate, all that stuff, vehicle titles, etc.) Get all this together in one place - make copies and give them to your "trustee" keep a copy, put the original in a safe deposit box, give your attorney a copy. In other words make sure that nothing is overlooked that could help get you healthy again!
  3. Are you an organ donor and is your agent familiar with your wishes regarding "extraordinary life support" measures and have you had them recorded in the "Living Will" mentioned above?

This is a work in progress - as I find more information I will be posting it along with links to forms that could be used to help you prepare for an accident . . . .

We all wear protective gear . . . get this stuff ready before you go too!!!!!
